Millstone Kitchen is celebrating the end of a successful multi-year collaboration with employees of the Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department. Over the past three years, Millstone Meal partners Tammy Caldwell and Pam Peyton have delivered more than 5,000 meals to seniors in the Christiansburg community.
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Pam and Tammy became aware of a need for home-delivered meals for elderly, homebound individuals. They immediately stepped up to answer the call and reached out to Millstone Kitchen about providing fresh, prepared meals. Thanks to the generosity of individual donors and multiple food access grants that sustained funding for the program, Millstone was able to provide the meals free of charge to the seniors. Shortly thereafter, distribution began.
The weekly Thursday delivery took around 2.5 hours as Pam and Tammy visited 41 individuals at 30+ households. Often, this delivery was the only personal interaction the seniors had in any given week. Tammy and Pam are on a first name basis with all their clients, and have enjoyed getting to connect with people and develop bonds. Tammy shared that “it was a good experience for us and the participants, a very worthwhile program.”
Thank you both for all your hard work and commitment to your community!
